WHAT IS AN ARTICLE V
CONVENTION OF STATES?

bkgSupremeCourt.jpg

There are things we all want Congress to do that they haven't had the guts to do.

THIS IS HOW IT GETS DONE

Article 5 of the Constitution of the United States mandates that Congress SHALL call for a Convention of States for the purpose of proposing amendments to the Constitution if two-thirds if the States apply for such a Convention.

Two-Thirds have applied.

LET'S GET THE DISCUSSION STARTED

In addition to the amendments we have proposed, we fully anticipate that a Convention of States will propose other amendments for the States to consider, including ones on subjects as diverse and divisive as abortion, unfunded mandates, the electoral college, states of emergency, fiscal responsibility, issues of judicial standing , executive privilege, and more.

Keep in mind, it is for the Convention to propose amendments, not to ratify or reject them. Nothing proposed by a Convention of States becomes law until it is passed by three-quarters of the legislatures of the States.

In other words, nothing far-out is going to make it through the filtering process.

A Convention of States is an historic opportunity to air out longstanding issues in our country and put them to a vote.  Some things will be resolved, others we will continue to fight over.

That is the nature of democracy.
